Back in the Blog Saddle

It has been almost two years since I last wrote on this blog, but I'm back, at least for now. Let me catch you up:
I had a solo Art Show back in October called "Chickens (and two ducks) Wearing Clothes. I thought the turnout was fantastic thanks to the Milwaukee Chamber Theatre. The show consisted of 10 original paintings of chickens that were inspired by my grandfather.
Also, three of these chickens will be in a show called Beauty is the Beast starting Friday, April 1st at 6771 University Ave, Middleton, WI. Click on the link to go to the Facebook Event page.
I hope to be on this blog much more in the future.

Newer York

Okay, so my iPhone's Twitteriffic seems to not be working at all! I didn't get to update at all since I've been here since the first day. I will speak more about New York when I get back to Milwaukee tomorrow. So, until then...

in NY

While I'm in NY, I won't be able to update this blog as much as I'd like to. However, you can check out what I'm doing through Twitter or Facebook. It's much easier to post to those two places with my iPhone.

The flight here was super fast/I slept the whole time. I was pretty tired from the two hours of sleep I got last night. I had a slice of New York style pizza, which I did NOT fold in half to eat, but it was still delicious, and then I took a nap at Katie's friend's place while she did homework.

I haven't been taking any pictures though and I need to so that I can make this blog more interesting. But I also don't want to look like a guy who should get mugged... but who am I kidding, this blog is way more important than that and if clicking pictures away with my camera gets me mugged because I look like a tourist, so be it! At least this blog will be colorful!

I will take a picture of this though:

Katie's friend James is a sculptor who works with Maya Lin. That's the artist who designed the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington DC. She's big time. So, that makes James pretty big time too. We're staying in his studio and though I haven't met him yet, I will say that I'm fascinated with his art and love for mayonnaise.

This is a sculpture of a man in a boat in mayonnaise. I think it's awesome.

Updating Designs

I just spent the last few hours updating the DESIGN section of my website. I posted a bunch of work that I haven't shown on my website before, so that's pretty nice.

There are some pieces that I do where I'm not sure if I should put them under "DESIGN" or "ILLUSTRATION" because I do a bit of both every time I make anything.

Also, I'm having a problem with my Photoshop. Whenever I view an image in Photoshop, it looks awesome, but when I view it in Preview or online, the image is considerably darker. This is very frustrating because I don't know what the heck is wrong. If anyone knows, please, give me a heads up. It's infurriating.

Here's what it looks like in my photoshop:

and here's what it looks like in all of the other programs. This image is from the internet:

Ug... I just want it to look good.

Petting Fish

This summer, I plan to do things that I've never done before. I started with petting a fish. You see, in February I went to the Shedd Aquarium and Katie mentioned that I looked absolutely terrified of all of the fish. I didn't realize it, but I AM scared of fish. They're so fast and sticky. And they can breath and see underwater. So, if I was in their element, they would best me. And I would die. So, it's a bit intimidating to think about.

Well yesterday, I pet a fish at Discovery World in Milwaukee, and I was terrified.

Little steps.. little steps.

New Logo

I think it's about time I worked on a new logo for myself and for AndrewBernier.com. The old one was inspired by Indiana Jones in 2004, may years before Indy made another big screen appearance. Now, it just seems a little weird that I'm copying them. This is the direction I'm going in. I've attached the old and new logo.

Learning Code

I have been messing with the code on my blog in these wee hours of the morning. I don't know if I have the look of the blog EXACTLY the way I want it, but it's a start. At least it has the same colors as my website. Next thing to do is change the homepage on my website to include a link to my blog. So, I will do that now.

This is a breeze, it just takes a lot of time.
